In this episode, planned to coincide with Pride Month, we explore ways of looking beyond assumptions of the past.  We attempt to discover other histories, those not always acknowledged in versions previously presented.

Spudfest is now an integral part of the Trentham calendar, annually bringing people from all directions, to celebrate the humble spud.  In this episode, we hear from some of those who were there from the beginning, what inspired them and how they went about it, and of course, what are their favourite potatoes.

With an appreciative audience gathered at the TNC on Sunday the 19^th of February, we were all treated to an excellent talk by Vicki Steggall, committee member of the TDHS and professional historian. 

Vicki speaks of the difference between collating research and writing a family history, along with lots of tips and anecdotes of her experience writing family histories. 

As we bring to a close the first season of Trentham Archive Treasures, we revisit some of the anecdotes shared with us during earlier episodes.  There have been local legends and tall tales, magnificent myths and sensational stories.

Many good fireside yarns have done the rounds, handed down through generations to a sometimes disbelieving or sceptical modern audience.

 

 

In the final episode of who is 'Mrs C Price, Market St, Trentham', we follow the lead to Daylesford to find out what happened to young Harry.  We learn more details of Christina's siblings in the area and about the connections the family have to properties in Market St and, as always, we listen to a few more recipes.

The Recorder has been published by the Trentham and District Historical Society since it's beginnings in 1987.  In this fourth episode of Recorder Snippets, we present a further selection of articles that were written in those early publications.  We must thank the early editors for their wonderful articles, especially those written by Bruce McKenzie.

This episode includes digging up the past of a local blacksmith, gold in the Trentham area, an early concert at the Mechanics Hall and something notorious for Trentham - snow and mud.

We all love the movies, whether our tastes tend towards block-busters on an epic scale or intimate art-house offerings.  In this episode we explore the showing of pictures in Trentham, exciting times when the movie cameras came to town, and the history of cinema in Australia beginning in the 19^th century,

Carmen & Snowflake were the first variety of potatoes to be grown in the district.  Hear about past potato growing in the Trentham district as well as some of the varieties and their uses today.

St Patricks Day in Australia brings to mind a pint of Guinness, a feed of potatoes and lots of music and celebration, all with a tinge of shamrock green. 

In this episode of Archive Treasures, we look back to earlier days celebrating St Patrick, and the impact of Irish migration to Australia.  We hear first hand the stories of some of those who have immigrated throughout the decades.

As the trek of small feet lead through the gates and the school year begins, we listen to stories of how some of the past schools of the district were established & some of the local shenanigans that occurred.

Ian Braybrook is the author of 'Outpost Doctor' and long-time appreciator of Dr Gweneth Wisewould.  In 1983, Ian created the radio documentary 'Dr Gwen 1938 to 1972' for broadcast on radio station 3CCC. 

Ian has kindly given permission for the program to be republished here on the fiftieth anniversary of the passing of Dr Gwen.

In part two of this special we hear from more of those who knew her and have kindly shared their memories of Dr Gwen.

 

As we approach the 50th anniversary of the passing of Dr Gweneth Wisewould - a Trentham citizen loved and remembered to this day – some of the people who knew her have kindly agreed to share their memories of this remarkable woman.

As the refurbishment of the Trentham Mechanics Institute Hall is imminent, some Members of the Project Advisory Group, or PAG, recently reflected on three years of involvement in the process to get to this point.

A day of celebration and reminiscing was held at the Trentham Mechanics Institute Hall on Sunday the 5th of December 2021.  This was to mark the drawing to a close of the current era of the building and to look forward to what stories and memories the renovated building will bring.

In this episode of Archive Treasures, we share with you some of the early history of the Trentham & District Historical Society.  The year of 1987 saw the formation of the original Trentham Historical Society.  Also in that year, the inaugural issue of the Recorder Newsletter was published for all members.

In the first of the Pig Tales recordings, Pat Walsh and Bill Hickey share stories of life in East Trentham, from their time at school through to 2010 when the recording was made.
